1992 ROLEX
Datejust Oysterquartz
Wristwatch
Ref. 17000
In the 1970s, as quartz movements surged in popularity, Rolex, renowned for its mechanical expertise, embraced quartz technology with the release of the Oysterquartz in 1977. From 1977 to 2001, approximately 25,000 Oysterquartz watches were produced, with the Caliber 5035 movement becoming a benchmark for precision.
Introduced in 1977, the Rolex Caliber 5035 Oysterquartz featured an 11-jewel, 32 kHz movement designed for the quartz Datejust, while the Cal. 5055 powered the Day-Date models. Initially cautious about quartz, Rolex’s Oysterquartz ultimately set a new standard in the industry.
Today, we present a special vintage Rolex Datejust Oysterquartz wristwatch, reference 17000, dated from 1992.
At its core is the quartz reliable, 11-jewel Rolex Caliber 5035 Oysterquartz movement, offering remarkable accuracy of ±50 seconds per year. The movement includes a central second hand, date indicator, and a 32,768vph frequency. Movement serial number: C109924.
The Caliber 5035 (COSC), along with the Caliber 5055, were Rolex's only mass-produced quartz movements for 25 years, with only 25,000 quartz models made. Production ended in 2001, making the Oysterquartz a rare collector's item. Rolex has not returned to the quartz market, adding to its desirability.
The sunburst silver dial features silver hour markers, matching luminous hands, and a black minute/second track. A date window sits at 3 o'clock, with the dial signed "Rolex," "Oysterquartz Datejust," and "Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified."
Housed in a 36mm stainless steel case with a fixed bezel, it features Rolex's signature waterproof screw-down crown and a crystal with the iconic Cyclops lens. It comes with the original stainless-steel bracelet, fitting wrists up to 8" (20.3 cm).
This Rolex Datejust Oysterquartz is in excellent condition and would make a great addition to any vintage collection.

Vintage watches are traditionally smaller than today's watches. Men’s watches typically measure between 29-36mm wide (some larger, some smaller) excluding the crown. In the listing details we typically try to do our best to list all pertinent dimensions of a watch. If you don't see it, or we failed to do so, please reach out to us. Women’s watches from the 1900s-1970s were also much smaller than today's offerings. Please also feel free to ask any questions you have concerning size.
